the final frontier! i know what you'll never give up as a new year's resolution.
Don't you know it! Bulletproof!
Wow... my family used to go there over 20 years ago. Out of the 100's of concerts I've seen, MBV still ranks up there as one of the best shows I've ever seen (ignoring the intense ringing ears for a few days after the fact).
Oh yeah? Have you been there yourself? Spill your secrets! Granted, I'm sure your experience there as a child won't be quite the same as mine potentially would be, but you never know.
It's not where I went as a kid (that was Grossingers and other places that are no longer) but as a young teen.
We used to go up Christmastime every year for a few years. Lots of food. Remember playing a bit of ping pong and bingo. They had nightclub entertainment including Latoya Jackson one year (shortly after her Penthouse spread with the snake); don't remember any of the other performers.
One intriguing secret is that the room keys are interchangeable. I remember someone asking to use my room key because they were locked out and they were right. Hopefully, they've changed that. Also, back then the dollar bill changer in the arcade took photocopied dollar bills although I'm sure that's changed as well.
Of course you remember Latoya! If I go, I promise I'll check out the room key and dollar bill changer. I bet the rooms no longer have keys (swipe cards) and the arcade has been removed.
My brother (who works for Blender magazine just wrote me about this today and joking about where it was being held. He sent me the news brief about the concert; it sounds like it's a Catskills resort vacation and concert combined.
holy shit! I thought that the universe was conspiring against me to make sure i'd never see the reunionized Polvo.. but again. holy shit!! this looks promising for me.
Oh man, if you came....!!!!
Polvo's myspace page says West Coast tour dates are in the works.
this is very important to me. i want to go.
I will respond to your email anon.
Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On
so jealous.
They'll probably do it on the west coast, too. But if not, why don't you just buy tickets to this one?
sigh. i wish i could. but i'm not doing much traveling. saving my bucks and my visits for the YEAR OF TRAVEL which at this point is just over a year away!

I've been recommended mogwai by a friend. Are they any good?
Depends what you like. Though you and I have gathered around several ATP festivals, I still don't know much about your tastes.

well, do you like Mogwai? I like Radiohead, Bjoerk, Momus, Zappa, and Portishead.
Yes, I like Mogwai very much! Check out their myspace page - I think there's a good smattering of songs on there. I bet you'll appreciate them...and keep in mind, they're always better live than on record. They're VERY loud.
WOW! How did I miss this?!? When do tickets go on sale???
Tickets on sale Friday....don't know what time, though.
Part of me hopes it's the same 4a that I had to get up for the UK MBV ticket sale to increase our chances of getting through.
I'm so excited!!!
I would totally set my alarm and be awake then. Actually, knowing me, I wouldn't be able to sleep and would just remain awake all night for it.
How does one not in the UK get a ticket for this?
No idea yet. Nothing's been announced.
I KNEW I didn't have to go to the UK to see MBV :)
So true! (though it might've been nice to be in Glasgow in the summer anyway.)
I will be at both! (assuming I get NY tickets)
full report and photos, please!
I saw this posted on Pitchfork last night.
WANT.
JESUS. Man why do they NEVER email you when you're on their list.
Where did you discover tix go on sale friday? I clicked "buy" and got sent to the ATP_Pitchfork page.
Man this is gonna rule. Perfect from Now On! The best BTS album! Wow wow wow.
Tell me about it. I get all kinds of updates about the events I'm *not* attending, and then I have to hear about this one via a friend. Ticket info from Pitchfork. I don't think I can express how excited I am for this weekend. I was having a near anxiety attack last night.
I want very much to go to this, though I'm weary about the whole complicated accommodations/ticket purchase setup. I also wonder if the very limited number of tickets is going to make this difficult to purchase. Still... man what a fucking show.
Don't worry about the complication - it's all worth it. Speaking as a veteran of three ATP festivals in the UK, I can say it's a very special event that I've never found anywhere else before. The small size, the intimacy, being surrounded by such friendly, hardcore, invested fans is truly an experience unlike any other. |
